Christopher Street is a choral ensemble dedicated to presenting high-quality performances of LGBTQ+ composers and works celebrating the queer experience. The ensemble frequently commissions new pieces, fostering emerging talent within the LGBTQ+ musical community.
Saint James Cathedral in Seattle serves as the mother church of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington. Completed in 1922, the cathedral is noted for its Gothic Revival architecture, featuring intricate stonework, stained glass windows depicting biblical scenes and Northwest Coast Native American art – a unique combination reflecting the region’s cultural heritage – and a substantial pipe organ installed in 1994 by Paul Fritts & Company.
Historically, Saint James has been a center for musical performance in Seattle, hosting concerts from various ensembles and maintaining an active music program encompassing choirs for all ages. The cathedral’s acoustics are highly regarded, lending themselves well to choral performances. It is also known for its social justice advocacy and inclusive community outreach programs. Christopher Street’s planned concert represents a continuation of the cathedral's commitment to artistic expression and community engagement.
