Chanticleer, an ensemble renowned for its mastery of a cappella vocal music, will perform at Mission Santa Clara De Asís on May 14, 2027. The group’s repertoire spans a wide range, from Renaissance polyphony to jazz and contemporary compositions, consistently characterized by virtuosic technique, precise intonation, and a uniquely blended sound achieved through all-male voices. They frequently commission new works and explore diverse musical traditions.

Mission Santa Clara De Asís, founded in 1777 by Franciscan friar Junípero Serra, represents the eighth of California’s 21 missions. Originally located closer to the Guadalupe River, the mission was rebuilt in its current location following significant damage from floods in 1868. The architecture reflects a blend of Spanish Colonial and Neoclassical styles. Historically, the mission served as a religious center for both the Ohlone people and Spanish settlers, also functioning as an agricultural and educational hub. Today it remains an active parish church and a designated California Historical Landmark, offering insights into the region’s complex history during the Spanish mission period and beyond.
