Chanticleer, an ensemble renowned for its vibrant and virtuosic performance of vocal music, will perform at the Historic Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs on May 3, 2027. The group specializes in a repertoire spanning six centuries, encompassing Renaissance polyphony, Gregorian chant, jazz, and contemporary compositions. Known for their blend of precise intonation, imaginative programming, and a uniquely clear vocal sound – often described as possessing a bell-like quality – Chanticleer consistently presents a cappella performances without a conductor.

The Historic Plaza Theatre originally opened in 1930 as a movie palace designed by architect Charles E. Stanton. It quickly became a central entertainment venue for Palm Springs residents and visitors alike, hosting film premieres and live performances. The theatre’s Spanish Colonial Revival style is characterized by its ornate plasterwork, terracotta tile roof, and distinctive neon signage. Following periods of decline and closure throughout the latter half of the 20th century, the theatre underwent significant restoration efforts completed in 2022. These renovations aimed to preserve the building’s historic architectural details while modernizing its technical capabilities to accommodate diverse performing arts events.
