Branford Marsalis is a highly acclaimed American saxophonist, composer, and bandleader whose musical style blends jazz, classical, and funk elements. Emerging from New Orleans’ vibrant jazz scene, he gained prominence in the 1980s alongside his brothers Wynton and Delfeayo Marsalis. His work demonstrates a commitment to both honoring jazz tradition and pushing its boundaries through experimentation and collaborations across genres. He has released numerous recordings as a leader, earning multiple Grammy Awards, and is also recognized for his film scores, including work on Spike Lee’s *Mo’ Better Blues*.
The Boulder Theater, the venue for this performance, opened in 1909 as a vaudeville house named the Boulder Auditorium. Throughout its history it has served various functions including a movie theater and concert hall. Renovated in 1973 and again in the early 2000s, the building retains much of its original architectural detail while incorporating modern amenities. It's known for its intimate setting and excellent acoustics, hosting a diverse range of performances encompassing music, comedy, and film.
