Brad Mehldau will perform at the Kulturpalast in Dresden, Germany on September 8, 2026. Mehldau is a highly acclaimed jazz pianist known for his introspective harmonic language and lyrical improvisation. His style frequently incorporates elements of classical music – particularly composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert – alongside influences from rock and pop, often featuring his own interpretations of songs by artists such as Radiohead and The Beatles. He’s recognized for his unique approach to trio playing, emphasizing interplay and subtle dynamic shifts.
The Kulturpalast, originally opened in 1964, is a significant cultural venue in Dresden. It served as the city's primary concert hall during East Germany’s existence and hosted numerous prominent musical and theatrical performances throughout that period. Following German reunification, it underwent extensive renovations completed in 2017. These renovations modernized the building while preserving its historical architectural features.
Today, the Kulturpalast functions as a multi-purpose venue accommodating orchestral concerts (it is the home of the Dresden Philharmonic), opera, ballet, conferences, and other large-scale events. Its main hall boasts excellent acoustics and a capacity of approximately 1,700 seats.
