The University of Exeter’s Great Hall is a significant venue within the Streatham Campus. Opened in 1955 as part of the post-war rebuilding of the university, it was designed by Sir Leslie Martin and Peter Moro – architects also involved in the Festival Hall in London. The Hall’s architecture reflects mid-century modernism, characterised by clean lines and functional design. It serves as a multi-purpose space hosting academic ceremonies, conferences, and performing arts events. Acoustically designed for speech, its adaptation for orchestral performances involves supplementary sound reinforcement when required to optimise the experience for larger ensembles like the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. The hall holds approximately 1,100 seats.
