Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will perform at the University of Exeter’s Great Hall on February 4th, 2027. The BSO is a leading UK orchestra with a reputation for versatility, performing a broad repertoire spanning classical standards through to contemporary compositions and film scores. Historically rooted in the English Romantic tradition, the orchestra frequently champions British composers alongside internationally renowned works. They are known for their dynamic performances and educational outreach programs.
The University of Exeter’s Great Hall is a significant architectural feature of the Streatham Campus, completed in 1955 as part of the university’s post-war expansion. Designed by Sir Robert Matthew, John Weeks & Partners, it is recognised for its modernist style and use of concrete construction. Originally conceived as a multi-purpose space, it has become a prominent venue for concerts, conferences, and graduation ceremonies. The hall's acoustics have been subject to ongoing evaluation and adjustments to optimise its suitability for musical performances. It holds approximately 1,100 seats and represents a key cultural resource for both the university community and the wider city of Exeter. Its stage has hosted numerous national and international artists over its history.
