Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will perform at the University Great Hall, Exeter on October 8, 2026. The BSO is recognised as one of the UK’s leading symphony orchestras, with a repertoire spanning over 130 years. Historically rooted in the English Romantic tradition, the orchestra frequently performs works by British composers alongside core classical and romantic pieces, and increasingly embraces 20th and 21st-century compositions. They are known for a warm, rich sound and a commitment to both established masterpieces and innovative programming.
The University of Exeter’s Great Hall is a significant venue within the Streatham Campus. Originally opened in 1955 as part of the post-war expansion of the university, it was designed by architect H.S. Goodhart-Rendel. The hall's design incorporates modernist principles with Art Deco influences, notably its striking geometric patterned brickwork and large windows. It functions as both a formal examination hall for university ceremonies and a performance space hosting musical events, lectures and conferences. The acoustics have been modified over time to accommodate diverse events while retaining qualities suitable for orchestral performances. Its capacity is approximately 1,100 seated attendees.
