Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO) will perform at The Queen’s Theatre in Devon on September 14, 2026. The BSO is a renowned British orchestra with a history stretching back to 1893. Its musical style is broadly rooted in the Romantic orchestral tradition, but the orchestra actively commissions and performs contemporary works, showcasing a diverse repertoire encompassing classical standards alongside modern compositions. The BSO is known for its strong community engagement and extensive education programs throughout the South West of England.
The Queen’s Theatre, located in Barnstaple, North Devon, originally opened in 1909 as a music hall and variety theatre. Throughout its history it has hosted a wide range of performances including travelling companies, operas, ballets, and dramatic productions. The building underwent significant refurbishment in the late 20th century, retaining many of its original Art Nouveau features while modernising facilities. It functions as a multi-purpose arts venue serving both professional touring productions and local amateur groups. The theatre's intimate setting provides a unique atmosphere for orchestral performances. It is currently operated by North Devon Council.
