Black Country, New Road, a British post-punk band formed in Cambridge in 2018, will be performing at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine on July 6, 2026. Their music is characterized by dynamic shifts in instrumentation and intensity, blending elements of post-punk, jazz, classical, and spoken word. Initially featuring lengthy, complex compositions with two vocalists, the band underwent a significant stylistic shift following the departure of vocalist Isaac Wood in 2022; current work focuses more heavily on guitar-driven arrangements and features vocalist Forêt. They have released three studio albums to date: *For the First Time* (2021), *Ants From Up There* (2022), and *Chlorine* (2024).
The State Theatre originally opened as a vaudeville house in 1929. Designed by architect Charles Howard Walker, it’s recognized for its ornate atmospheric interior featuring a lavishly decorated auditorium inspired by Italian Renaissance design. Throughout its history it has functioned as a movie palace and a performance venue hosting a variety of acts.
