Behn Gillece is a guitarist and composer known for a distinctive style blending jazz improvisation with influences from classical music, Brazilian rhythms, and American songbook traditions. His compositions often feature intricate fingerstyle guitar work and a lyrical melodic sensibility. He has released several albums to critical acclaim and frequently performs as a solo artist and with ensembles.
The Barnes Foundation, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, houses a world-renowned collection of post-impressionist and early modern paintings, with particularly significant holdings of works by Renoir, Cézanne, Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani and Van Gogh. Founded by Albert C. Barnes in 1922, it was originally established as an educational institution – not simply a museum – intended to promote appreciation for art through direct experience.
Barnes specifically designed the presentation of the collection based on his theories of aesthetic education, grouping paintings according to relationships of form and color rather than chronology or school. The current building opened in 2012, replicating the intimate ensemble arrangements of the original gallery space while accommodating larger audiences. The Foundation continues its educational mission alongside public access to the art collection.
