B.D. Lenz is a German-American jazz saxophonist and composer known for his energetic and harmonically sophisticated approach to modern jazz. His music blends elements of post-bop, free improvisation, and occasionally incorporates influences from electronic music, often featuring complex arrangements and virtuosic soloing. He leads the B.D. Lenz Quartet and has released albums on labels such as Jazzline Records.
Jazzkeller Frankfurt is a long-standing jazz club with a significant history within the German jazz scene. Founded in 1952, it initially operated as a cellar venue – hence the name “Jazzkeller” meaning “Jazz Cellar” – and quickly became a vital hub for both international and domestic jazz musicians during the post-war period. Over the decades, it has hosted numerous prominent figures in jazz, including Art Blakey, Dexter Gordon, and Sarah Vaughan.
The club relocated in 1996 to a more spacious location but maintains its commitment to presenting high-quality live jazz performances. It continues to be recognized as one of Germany’s most important jazz venues, fostering both established artists and emerging talent. The venue's intimate atmosphere remains a key characteristic despite the larger space.
