Anna Lapwood is a British organist renowned for her virtuosic playing and commitment to expanding the repertoire for the instrument, particularly through transcriptions of orchestral and choral works. Her performances often showcase a blend of traditional organ literature alongside arrangements of pieces by composers such as Ravel, Debussy, and Wagner, demonstrating the organ’s capabilities beyond its conventional associations. She frequently incorporates improvisation into her concerts and is a prominent advocate for the instrument's accessibility.
Markuskirche (St. Mark’s Church) in Hanover, Germany, holds significant historical and architectural importance. Constructed between 1877 and 1889 in the Neo-Gothic style, it was designed by architect Conrad Wilhelm Hase. The church suffered substantial damage during World War II but was meticulously reconstructed between 1952 and 1958, retaining much of its original character. Its organ, built by Furtwängler & Hammer in 1961/62 with later additions, is a notable feature – a mechanical action instrument with 63 stops and approximately 4,000 pipes.
