Andrew Joyce, a New Zealand composer and pianist known for his neo-romantic and often cinematic musical style, will be performing at the Oamaru Opera House on October 20, 2026. Joyce’s compositions frequently draw inspiration from New Zealand landscapes and storytelling, blending classical structures with accessible melodic content. He is recognised for works spanning solo piano pieces, chamber music, and orchestral scores.

The Oamaru Opera House, located in the historic Victorian Precinct of Ōamaru, opened in 1908. Originally designed as a combined theatre and municipal building, it served as a significant entertainment venue for the region throughout the 20th century. The building features ornate Edwardian Baroque architecture and originally boasted seating for approximately 800 patrons.

Following a period of decline and structural concerns in the late 20th century, a major restoration project was undertaken between 2015 and 2017. This refurbishment aimed to restore many of the Opera House’s original features while also modernizing facilities to meet contemporary performance standards. The restored venue continues to host a diverse range of performances including theatre, music concerts, and community events.
