He began his career in the 1990s with the band Squirrel Nut Zippers before establishing a successful solo career marked by critically acclaimed albums and distinctive live shows.

Walt Disney Concert Hall opened in October 2003 and serves as the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the hall is renowned for its striking stainless steel exterior and its exceptional acoustics, achieved through the work of acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota. The building's interior features a vineyard-style seating arrangement which places the audience closer to the performers. It has become a landmark building in downtown Los Angeles and hosts a wide variety of musical performances beyond orchestral concerts, including contemporary and popular music acts. The hall’s construction was partially funded by a significant donation from Walt Disney’s widow, Lillian Disney.
