Steigerturm „Unsere Mitte“ is a former industrial cooling tower, originally built in 1928 as part of the Dortmunder Union brewery complex. Following the brewery’s closure in 1988, the tower fell into disuse and faced potential demolition. A citizens' initiative successfully campaigned for its preservation, leading to its conversion into a cultural venue beginning in the early 2000s. The renovated tower now hosts a diverse range of events including concerts, exhibitions, and workshops. Its unique architectural structure creates distinctive acoustics, particularly suited to atmospheric and experimental music performances. The space is recognized as an industrial heritage site and a landmark within Dortmund’s harbor area (Hafen).
