Le Louvre-Lens is an annexe of the Musée du Louvre in Paris, opened in 2012. It represents a significant decentralization effort by the Louvre, aiming to bring art and culture to a wider audience outside of the Parisian metropolitan area. The building itself, designed by architects Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, is notable for its glass pavilion structure set within a former coal mining basin – a deliberate choice reflecting the region’s industrial past.
