Originally the private home of Dr. John Mayfield and his wife Peggy, it was gifted to the nation in 2014 with the intention of establishing a centre for chamber music and cultural exchange. The centre’s primary performance space is a purpose-built concert hall renowned for its exceptional acoustics, designed by acoustic engineer Jochen Sauer. It accommodates around sixty audience members, fostering an intimate concert experience. Ukaria hosts a diverse program of classical, jazz and world music performances throughout the year, prioritizing acoustic genres and supporting both established and emerging artists. The building itself incorporates sustainable design principles reflecting its rural setting.
