Originally constructed in 1848 as the *Großer Festsaal* within the Hotel Erzherzog Johann, it was renamed Stefaniensaal in honour of Archduchess Stephanie of Belgium following extensive renovations in 1969.

The Stefaniensaal is renowned for its excellent acoustics and ornate Neo-Renaissance interior featuring frescoes and gilded stucco work.
