Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is South Australia’s state orchestra, renowned for a broad repertoire encompassing classical masterworks, contemporary compositions, and cross-genre collaborations. The orchestra frequently performs works from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th/21st-century periods, alongside commissions from Australian composers. The concert on July 17th, 2026 will be held at Adelaide Town Hall. Completed in 1866, the Town Hall is a significant example of Victorian civic architecture and holds heritage listing at both state and national levels. Designed by architects Wright & Woods and later modified by E.J. Woods, its construction utilized local materials including sandstone from Glen Osmond quarries.

The building’s Grand Concert Hall features notable acoustic properties due to its design and materials – specifically the high ceilings and ornate plasterwork – making it a favoured venue for musical performances. Throughout its history, Adelaide Town Hall has hosted a wide range of events beyond concerts, including civic ceremonies, exhibitions and public meetings; however it maintains a strong association with musical performance within the city of Adelaide.
