Experience Prades

Prades, a charming town in the Pyrénées-Orientales department of southern France, holds a remarkably significant place in 20th-century classical music history, largely due to its association with composer Gabriel Fauré. Fauré spent his final years in Prades, moving there in 1905 seeking respite for his failing health. This relocation attracted numerous prominent musicians and artists to the area.

However, Prades’ musical legacy truly blossomed with the founding of the *Festival de Prades* in 1950 by pianist Robert Casadesus. Initially conceived as a tribute to Fauré (who died in 1924), the festival quickly evolved into a renowned international chamber music event. It consistently features world-class orchestras and soloists performing a diverse repertoire, though historically leaning towards French Romantic and 20th-century composers – Debussy, Ravel alongside Bartók and Stravinsky have been frequently showcased.

While not traditionally a jazz hub, the festival's broad artistic vision has occasionally incorporated jazz elements and collaborations. The town’s intimate setting and dedicated audience contribute to an exceptional acoustic experience.
