Zagrebačka Filharmonija (Zagreb Philharmonic) is Croatia’s leading symphony orchestra, boasting a rich history dating back to its founding in 1871. Initially established as the “Harmonisch Society,” it quickly evolved into a professional ensemble under the baton of renowned conductors like Franz Kuchar and later, Dimitrije Markovski. Throughout the 20th century, the orchestra solidified its reputation through extensive concert seasons in Zagreb and frequent international tours, performing across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Known for a versatile repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works, Zagrebačka Filharmonija champions both established masterpieces and Croatian composers like Ivan Goran Kovačić and Bruno Šimleša. The orchestra has collaborated with numerous celebrated soloists including Arthur Rubinstein, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Placido Domingo.

A significant milestone was its participation in the inaugural season of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival. More recently, they’ve released critically acclaimed recordings on labels like CPO and Naxos, further expanding their global reach.
