Experience Yaara Tal

Yaara Tal is an Israeli-American composer, accordionist, and vocalist forging a unique path within contemporary music. Born in Israel and based in Brooklyn, NY, Tal’s work blends elements of klezmer, jazz, avant-garde, and experimental folk traditions. She holds a DMA in Composition from Columbia University, where she studied with Georg Friedrich Haas.

Tal’s compositional focus often centers around exploring themes of diaspora, memory, and identity through extended techniques on the accordion and vocal improvisation. She's garnered recognition for her innovative approach to the instrument, pushing its sonic boundaries beyond traditional genres.

Her debut album, *Shirim,* released on Tzadik Records (John Zorn’s label) in 2023, received critical acclaim for its haunting melodies and textural complexity. Prior to this, Tal was a recipient of the American Composers Forum Subito grant and has been commissioned by ensembles including the JACK Quartet and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). She frequently performs internationally as a soloist and collaborator, establishing herself as a significant voice in new music. Her work challenges conventional musical structures while remaining deeply emotionally resonant.
