Xavier Charles is a French-American multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer deeply rooted in the jazz tradition while consistently pushing its boundaries. Born in Paris and based in New York City, Charles began his musical journey with classical piano before gravitating towards improvisation and jazz saxophone. He’s a prominent figure within a generation redefining contemporary jazz, known for his subtly complex compositions and textural explorations.

Charles’s discography includes critically acclaimed albums like *Bellecombe* (2019) and *Carry On* (2023), both released on ECM Records. *Bellecombe* garnered praise for its spacious arrangements and evocative melodies, earning features in publications like The Wire and DownBeat. *Carry On* expands on this aesthetic, incorporating electronic elements alongside his core quartet instrumentation – featuring longtime collaborators—and exploring themes of memory and place.
