World Citizen Band is a multinational musical project spearheaded by French multi-instrumentalist and producer, Marc Moulin, active from 1976 until Moulin’s death in 2008. Initially conceived as a vehicle for exploring global musical traditions through a jazz-funk lens, the band featured rotating casts of musicians from diverse backgrounds – notably including members from Senegal, Zaire (now DRC), and the Caribbean.

Their sound is characterized by complex polyrhythms, sophisticated arrangements blending jazz improvisation with African percussion and electronic elements, and often features vocals in multiple languages (French, English, Wolof). Key albums include *Jungle Jazz* (1979), considered a landmark in early world music fusion, and *My Africa* (1982).

World Citizen Band achieved significant critical acclaim within Europe, particularly France and Belgium, though remained largely underground internationally. They collaborated with prominent artists like Manu Dibango and Fela Kuti (though a full collaborative album never materialized). The project consistently pushed boundaries between genres and championed intercultural musical dialogue, influencing subsequent generations of artists working in global sounds. Moulin continued to release material under the World Citizen Band name even after initial disbandment, maintaining its core ethos.
