Will Calhoun is an American drummer, percussionist, and record producer. Born November 28, 1964, in Shreveport, Louisiana, he rose to prominence as a member of the Grammy Award-winning jazz fusion group Living Colour, joining in 1985. Calhoun’s drumming is characterized by its powerful technique, polyrhythmic complexity, and incorporation of funk and rock elements alongside traditional jazz sensibilities.
Beyond his work with Living Colour – which includes albums like *Vivid* (1988) and *Time* (1990) – Calhoun has maintained a prolific career as a session musician and solo artist. He has collaborated with artists spanning diverse genres including Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, Run-DMC, and Pharoah Sanders. His solo discography includes albums such as *Native Lands* (1992) and *The Legacy* (2000), showcasing his compositions and explorations into world music influences.
Calhoun founded the record label JumpBlues Records in 2000. He has received numerous accolades for his musicianship including being named one of the greatest drummers of all time by *Modern Drummer* magazine on multiple occasions. He continues to perform and record actively with both Living Colour and his own projects.
