The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra boasts a distinguished history stretching back to 1901, founded by Zygmunt Noskowski. Initially known as the Warsaw Philharmonic Society Orchestra, it quickly established itself as Poland’s leading symphony orchestra. Throughout its existence, the orchestra has been shaped by prominent chief conductors including Grzegorz Fitelberg, Witold Lutosławski (as artistic director post-war reconstruction), and currently, Vasily Sinaisky.

Renowned for its interpretations of Polish composers like Chopin, Penderecki, and Szymanowski, the Warsaw Philharmonic also performs a broad repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works. The orchestra frequently tours internationally, appearing at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall and the BBC Proms.

A significant accomplishment is its extensive discography – over 200 recordings – many receiving critical acclaim and awards. Notably, in 2023, the orchestra became the first Polish ensemble to release a complete recording of Chopin’s piano concertos with leading pianists on Deutsche Grammophon, achieving global chart success. Beyond concert performance and recording, the orchestra actively engages in educational outreach programs fostering musical appreciation within Poland and abroad.
