Experience Véronique Gens
Véronique Gens is a celebrated French mezzo-soprano renowned for her interpretations of Baroque and Classical repertoire, particularly the works of Handel, Vivaldi, and Mozart. Born in Paris in 1964, she initially studied piano before focusing on vocal performance at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique.
Gens’s career blossomed in the late 1980s and 90s, quickly establishing her as a leading interpreter of *haute-contre* roles – traditionally sung by countertenors – bringing a lyrical warmth and dramatic nuance to these parts. She’s frequently collaborated with renowned conductors like William Christie and Jean-Claude Malgoire, notably with Les Arts Florissants.
Her discography is extensive, including critically acclaimed recordings of Handel’s *Rinaldo*, Vivaldi’s *Juditha Triumphans*, and numerous Mozart arias. Gens has received multiple Diapason d'Or awards for her recordings and was named "Artiste Lyrique de l'Année" (Lyric Artist of the Year) by the Association Française des Critiques Musicaux in 1993.
