Experience Tune Heads
Tune Heads is a British electronic music duo formed in 1992 in Manchester, England, consisting of producers and DJs Gareth Whitehead and Matthew ‘M’ Parkin. Initially focused on hardcore rave music, they quickly became prominent figures in the emerging intelligent drum and bass scene. Their early releases on labels such as Shut Up and Dance and Formation Records established their signature sound – characterized by complex breakbeat programming, atmospheric textures, and melodic elements often incorporating sampled film scores.
The duo gained wider recognition with their 1995 album *Rythm Is A Dancer*, released on V Recordings. This release showcased a more refined and sophisticated approach to drum and bass, moving away from purely sample-based tracks towards original compositions. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Tune Heads released numerous singles and remixes for artists including Goldie and LTJ Bukem, consistently appearing on influential drum and bass radio shows like BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix.
They continued to release material sporadically throughout the 2010s, maintaining a dedicated following within the drum and bass community. Their work is frequently cited as influential in the development of atmospheric drum & bass and continues to be played by DJs internationally.
