Tomáš Netopil is a Czech conductor rapidly gaining international recognition for his insightful interpretations and dynamic performances. Trained initially as a violinist at the Prague Conservatory and later studying conducting with Sir Colin Davis, Jiří Bělohlávek, and others, Netopil’s career blossomed after winning the 2012 International Conducting Competition “Nino Rota” in Italy.
He served as Music Director of the North Bohemian Theatre in Teplice (2013-2016) and subsequently as Chief Conductor of the Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc (2016-2021), significantly raising their artistic profile. Currently, he holds the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, beginning in 2023.
Netopil’s repertoire is broad, encompassing Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular affinity for Czech composers like Dvořák and Janáček. He's praised for his meticulous preparation, clarity of phrasing, and ability to draw nuanced performances from orchestras. Notable engagements include appearances with orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and Orchestre National de France.
