Tom Sochas is a highly sought-after multi-instrumentalist, arranger, and composer specializing in historical performance practice, particularly of 17th and 18th-century music. Primarily known for his work on the viola da gamba – both the six and seven-string varieties – he’s a prominent figure in the early music revival.

Sochas is a founding member of several acclaimed ensembles including Trio Settecento, recognized for its historically informed performances of Baroque chamber music, and the Haymarket Committee, focusing on the works of Handel. He frequently collaborates with leading orchestras and chamber groups worldwide, appearing with The Metropolitan Opera, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, and Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra amongst others.

His discography is extensive, featuring numerous recordings on labels like Avie Records and Naxos. Notably, he served as the principal viola da gamba soloist on Jordi Savall’s Grammy-nominated recording of Rameau’s *Hippolyte et Aricie*.
