Experience Tim Fitzgerald
Tim Fitzgerald is a highly respected American jazz bassist, composer, and educator, active since the 1980s. He’s best known for his long-standing association with saxophonist Lee Konitz, performing and recording extensively with Konitz from 1985 until Konitz’s death in 2010. Fitzgerald’s playing is characterized by a lyrical melodicism, harmonic sophistication, and a distinctive warm tone – often described as influenced by Paul Chambers and Scott LaFaro.
He's released several albums as a leader, including *Suite for Monk* (Cadence Jazz Records), showcasing his compositional abilities and deep understanding of Thelonious Monk’s harmonic language. Beyond Konitz, Fitzgerald has collaborated with prominent figures like Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler, and Dave Brubeck.
A dedicated educator, he's served on the faculty of New England Conservatory and currently teaches at Berklee College of Music. His pedagogical approach emphasizes ear training, improvisation, and a thorough grounding in jazz history. Fitzgerald continues to perform internationally, maintaining a busy schedule of concerts and workshops. He represents a vital link to the legacy of post-bop jazz while consistently exploring new musical avenues.
