Experience Thomas Leleu

Thomas Leleu is a highly acclaimed French trombonist, renowned for pushing the boundaries of the instrument’s capabilities. Born in 1976, he began trombone studies at age eight and quickly distinguished himself, winning first prize at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 1998.

Leleu’s career spans both orchestral and solo performance. He served as principal trombone with the Orchestre National de France from 2001-2008, and frequently performs as a guest with leading orchestras worldwide. However, he is perhaps best known for his innovative solo work, commissioning new pieces and exploring extended techniques on the trombone.

He's a champion of contemporary music, collaborating with composers like Kaija Saariaho and Tristan Murail. Leleu’s discography includes critically lauded albums focusing on both standard repertoire and newly composed works – notably his recordings of Berlioz’s *Harold en Italie* and concertos by Lutosławski and Jolivet. He is also dedicated to education, holding a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. His playing is characterized by its lyrical beauty, technical brilliance, and adventurous spirit.
