Experience The Refreshments
The Refreshments emerged from Blacksburg, Virginia in the early 1990s, quickly gaining a reputation for their energetic live shows and unique blend of rockabilly, surf rock, and alternative country. Originally formed as a cover band playing 1950s and 60s classics, they transitioned to original material spearheaded by singer/songwriter Roger Klingman. Their sound is characterized by twangy guitar work, upright bass, driving rhythms, and Klingman’s distinctive vocals.
The band signed with Mercury Records in 1996 and released their debut album *Both Sides Now*, featuring the hit single "Blue Jeans." This song reached #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and received significant MTV airplay, becoming their signature tune. A follow-up album, *Street Corner Carnival* (1997), followed but didn't achieve the same commercial success.
Despite disbanding in 1998, The Refreshments cultivated a dedicated fanbase and continue to be recognized for influencing the neo-rockabilly revival of the late 90s. They briefly reunited for performances in the 2010s, demonstrating enduring appeal.
