The Budos Band emerged from Staten Island, New York in 2005, forging a unique instrumental path blending Ethiopian jazz, Afrobeat, and classic American funk & soul. Initially a collective of musicians from diverse backgrounds – including members with experience in hardcore punk and free jazz – they quickly developed a signature sound characterized by driving rhythms, layered horn arrangements, and a distinctly cinematic quality.

Their self-released debut album, *The Budos Band* (2005), garnered critical acclaim and established their live reputation. Subsequent albums like *II* (2007), *The Alchemist* (2009), and *Burnt Offering* (2012) further refined their style and expanded their fanbase. Notably, *The Alchemist* was partially inspired by and featured artwork referencing the film of the same name.

The band’s music has been featured in numerous film soundtracks and television shows, including *Weeds*, *Gossip Girl*, and several independent films. They've toured extensively across North America and Europe, sharing stages with artists like Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Antibalas.
