Experience Terry Wollman
Terry Wollman is a highly respected American jazz pianist, composer, and educator with a career spanning over five decades. Born in 1942, he began formal piano studies at age five and quickly demonstrated prodigious talent, earning a scholarship to the Eastman School of Music. While initially pursuing classical music, Wollman gravitated towards jazz, becoming deeply influenced by Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett.
He gained prominence as a sideman throughout the 1960s and 70s, performing with artists like Zoot Sims, Art Blakey, and Lee Konitz. However, he’s best known for his extensive solo work beginning with his 1982 album *Second Sight*, showcasing his introspective and harmonically rich improvisations. Wollman’s style is characterized by lyrical melodies, sophisticated chord voicings, and a distinctive touch emphasizing clarity and emotional depth.
Throughout the 1990s & 2000s he released numerous critically acclaimed albums on the Japanese label Venus Jazz, solidifying his international reputation. Beyond performance, Wollman has dedicated himself to music education for over thirty years at various institutions including the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
