Experience Teddy Abrams

Teddy Abrams is a highly acclaimed American conductor, pianist, and composer rapidly gaining international recognition. Born in 1983, he currently serves as Music Director of the Louisville Orchestra, a position he assumed in 2017 – becoming one of the youngest music directors of a major American orchestra.

Abrams’ conducting style is noted for its energy, insightful interpretations, and commitment to contemporary music alongside standard repertoire. He frequently champions works by living composers, often commissioning new pieces and collaborating directly with them. A graduate of Eastman School of Music and the Curtis Institute of Music (where he studied piano with Seymour Lipkin), Abrams maintains an active performing career as a pianist.

His compositions include *Pennsylvania Avenue*, a work commissioned by the Kennedy Center honoring Leonard Bernstein, and several orchestral pieces exploring American themes. He has conducted with orchestras across North America including the National Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. Notably, Abrams received a 2021 Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Classical Composition for his work *Michigan Variations*. He's also recognized for innovative concert programming designed to broaden orchestral accessibility.
