Experience Sylvia Howard
Sylvia Howard (born December 27, 1947, in Memphis, Tennessee) was a highly respected American soul and gospel singer, primarily active during the 1960s and 70s. Initially signed to Parkway Records in 1965, she gained recognition with singles like “Love Is Such a Wonderful Thing” and “I’m So Glad (You’re Mine).” Her powerful, emotive vocals and sophisticated arrangements distinguished her within the Southern soul scene.
Howard later moved to Atlantic Records subsidiary Cotillion in 1968, where she released her most acclaimed work, including the album *Sylvia Howard* (1972), featuring the charting single "Don't Give Up on Me." This period showcased a blend of gospel-infused soul with hints of jazz and orchestral arrangements. While never achieving mainstream superstardom, Howard became a favorite amongst soul connoisseurs for her raw emotional delivery and nuanced interpretations.
She continued recording throughout the 70s on various labels like Musicor and Columbia before largely retiring from active performance.
