Sydney Youth Orchestra (SYO) is Australia’s premier youth orchestra, fostering musical excellence in young musicians for over 75 years. Founded in 1945 post-WWII to provide opportunities for returning servicemen and women’s children, it has grown into a multifaceted organization encompassing ten orchestras, string ensembles, and a renowned conductors program. SYO caters to musicians aged 8 to 26, offering a pathway from beginner to pre-professional level.

The SYO performs a diverse repertoire spanning classical masterpieces to contemporary works, often commissioning new Australian compositions. They regularly collaborate with internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists, providing invaluable performance experience. Notable alumni include celebrated musicians like Richard Tognetti (Artistic Director of the Australian Chamber Orchestra) and composer Matthew Hindson.

SYO frequently performs at iconic venues like the Sydney Opera House and City Recital Hall, attracting large audiences.
