Experience Sugarpie and the Candymen

Sugarpie and the Candymen are a Canadian indie pop/rock band formed in 2011 in Toronto, Ontario, fronted by vocalist Sugarpie (Mary-Katherine Gould). Initially a solo project for Gould, the band quickly evolved to include Sam Arnal, Tony Costanza, and Nicholas Ferraro. Their sound is characterized by a retro aesthetic – drawing heavily from 1960s girl groups, sunshine pop, and baroque pop – blended with modern indie sensibilities.

Sugarpie’s songwriting often explores themes of love, loss, and female empowerment with a distinctive lyrical wit. The band gained traction with their 2013 debut album *Where the City Blooms*, followed by *American Dream* (2015) and critically acclaimed *Sugar & Syrup* (2017), which earned a Juno Award nomination for Adult Alternative Album of the Year.

They've consistently toured Canada and the US, supporting artists like Alvvays and performing at festivals like NXNE. Their most recent release is the 2023 album *Celestial Mechanics*, continuing their exploration of layered vocals, shimmering instrumentation and emotionally resonant storytelling.
