Subtones are a British reggae/ska band formed in 2002, originating from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Initially a covers band playing classic ska and reggae, they quickly transitioned to writing original material, blending traditional sounds with contemporary influences. Their style incorporates elements of roots reggae, two-tone ska, and upbeat pop melodies, often featuring prominent brass sections and harmonious vocal arrangements.

The band gained significant traction through extensive touring across the UK festival circuit – appearances at Glastonbury, Bestival, and Boomtown Fair being particularly notable – and consistent online engagement. They’ve released three studio albums: *Sound System* (2011), *Jah Love* (2014), and *Roots Revival* (2018), all independently produced.

Subtones have supported artists like The Beat and Bad Manners, further solidifying their position within the UK ska revival scene. Known for energetic live performances and positive lyrical themes focusing on unity and social consciousness, they maintain a dedicated fanbase and continue to actively tour and release music as of late 2023. Their music is frequently featured on BBC Introducing.
