Steven Sloane is a highly respected American conductor renowned for his versatile repertoire and compelling interpretations. Born in Los Angeles, he initially studied piano before focusing on conducting, receiving training from Leonard Bernstein and Herbert von Karajan. He served as Music Director of the Florida Orchestra (1999-2003) and the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra (2008-2016), significantly raising their international profiles.

Sloane’s conducting style is characterized by a meticulous attention to detail, dramatic flair, and a deep understanding of orchestral color. He champions both standard repertoire – particularly German Romantic composers like Mahler and Bruckner – and contemporary works, frequently premiering new pieces.

He has held principal conducting positions with the Dresden Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared as a guest conductor with leading orchestras worldwide including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.
