Stephen Layton is a highly respected British choral conductor, renowned for his interpretations of both standard repertoire and lesser-known works. He served as Director of Music at Trinity College, Cambridge from 1982-2021, transforming the Chapel Choir into one of the world’s leading ensembles. Under his direction, Trinity College Choir undertook extensive international tours and released numerous critically acclaimed recordings on labels like Hyperion and Decca.

Layton’s conducting style emphasizes clarity, precision, and a sensitive understanding of vocal color. He champions a historically informed approach, particularly within the English choral tradition, but isn't afraid to explore contemporary compositions.
