Sons of Ra are a British progressive rock band formed in 1997, initially as a studio project spearheaded by guitarist and composer Chris Bennett. Emerging from the UK’s vibrant neo-progressive scene, they quickly gained recognition for their complex arrangements and atmospheric soundscapes. While maintaining a consistent core of Bennett’s songwriting and guitar work, the band has featured a rotating cast of musicians over its lifespan, including vocalists like Steve Thorne (ex-Cutting Crew) and keyboardists like Olov Strandberg.

Their music blends elements of classic progressive rock – think early Genesis and Yes – with modern production techniques and ambient textures. Sons of Ra have released eight studio albums to date, beginning with *Cadence* (1998) and most recently *New World Order* (2023). Key characteristics include intricate instrumental passages, conceptual lyrical themes often exploring science fiction and philosophical ideas, and dynamic shifts in tempo and mood.
