Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal, rooted in a tradition stretching back to 1911 as the Wuppertaler Kurorchester, is a German orchestra based in Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia. Officially becoming the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal in 1966, the ensemble has evolved from a spa orchestra into a versatile symphonic body.

Currently led by Chief Conductor Clemens Schuldt since 2018, the orchestra’s repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary works, with a particular focus on late Romantic and 20th/21st-century compositions. They are known for ambitious concert series exploring thematic connections and interdisciplinary projects, frequently collaborating with regional artists and institutions.

The orchestra performs regularly at the Stadthalle Wuppertal and maintains a strong educational outreach program. Notable accomplishments include numerous recordings for radio and CD, participation in international festivals – including appearances in Italy and Poland – and consistently positive critical reception for their interpretations of both standard repertoire and lesser-known works. They are funded by the City of Wuppertal and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, reflecting their importance within the region’s cultural landscape.
