Shirley Grimes (born September 25, 1937, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina) is an American gospel and soul singer renowned for her powerful vocals and emotionally resonant performances. Beginning her career singing in church, Grimes gained wider recognition in the 1960s with several singles released on labels like Atlantic Records and Wand Records. Though she didn’t achieve mainstream chart-topping success, her recordings have become highly sought-after by Northern Soul enthusiasts and collectors globally.

Grimes' style blends deeply rooted gospel traditions with a raw, soulful delivery reminiscent of artists like Etta James and Dinah Washington.
