Experience Shapes of the Land

Shapes of the Land is a Canadian instrumental post-rock band formed in 2011 in Calgary, Alberta. The group – currently comprised of multi-instrumentalists Chad Pelley and Matthew Von Ende – creates expansive, cinematic soundscapes heavily influenced by progressive rock, ambient music, and elements of jazz fusion. They are known for their meticulous layering of guitars, synthesizers, and drums to evoke vivid imagery and emotional depth.

Initially a larger ensemble, Shapes of the Land transitioned to its current duo format after several member changes. They’ve released three full-length albums: *Shapes of the Land* (2013), *First Narrows* (2016), and *Modern Static* (2023), all on Lifeforce Records. *Modern Static* received critical acclaim, lauded for its dynamic range and sophisticated compositions.

The band actively tours North America and Europe, frequently performing alongside prominent acts in the post-rock scene like Explosions in the Sky and Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Their music has been featured in film and television, further expanding their reach beyond the dedicated post-rock community.
