Semyon Bychkov is a distinguished conductor renowned for his dynamic interpretations and profound musical insight. Born in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in 1952, Bychkov emigrated to the West in the 1970s, quickly establishing himself as a leading figure on the international classical music scene. He studied at the Leningrad Conservatory before continuing his education in Vienna and the United States.

Bychkov’s career spans prestigious appointments, including Music Director of the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne and Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2010, he has served as Music Director of the Czech Philharmonic, elevating its global profile with compelling performances and innovative programming.

Known for his meticulous attention to detail and passionate conducting style, Bychkov excels across a broad repertoire but is particularly celebrated for his interpretations of Russian composers such as Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky, as well as Germanic repertoire including Beethoven and Brahms.
