Rossitza Milevska is a Bulgarian-born, American-based pianist renowned for her intensely expressive interpretations of 20th and 21st-century classical music, particularly the works of Béla Bartók, György Ligeti, and Olivier Messiaen. Trained at the National Music Academy in Sofia and later at the Juilliard School with Earl Wild, she has established a distinguished international career performing across Europe, Asia, and North America.
Milevska is celebrated for her fearless tackling of technically demanding pieces and a vibrant, often dramatic performance style. She’s a frequent performer of spectral music and microtonal compositions, showcasing a commitment to pushing the boundaries of piano repertoire. A dedicated advocate for contemporary composers, she has premiered numerous works written specifically for her.
Her discography includes critically acclaimed recordings of Ligeti’s *Études* (nominated for a Grammy Award), Bartók's complete piano works, and Messiaen’s *Vingt Regards sur l'Enfant-Jésus*. She holds a doctoral degree from Stony Brook University and currently serves as Professor of Piano at SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music. Her performances consistently receive praise for their intellectual depth and emotional power.
