Experience Rosemary Fossee

Rosemary Fossee (born Rosemary Squires, 1935 – 2017) was a British singer and actress celebrated for her distinctive, smoky contralto voice and sophisticated cabaret style. Beginning her career in the late 1950s, she initially found success performing in London clubs and on BBC radio, quickly establishing herself as a compelling interpreter of jazz standards and French chanson.

Fossee’s repertoire spanned composers like Cole Porter, Kurt Weill, and Jacques Brel, delivered with nuanced phrasing and dramatic flair. She released several albums throughout the 1960s and 70s, including “Rosemary” (1964) and “Cabaret Rosemary” (1968), garnering critical acclaim for their intimate atmosphere.

While never achieving mainstream pop stardom, Fossee became a highly respected figure within jazz and cabaret circles. She frequently collaborated with leading musicians like Dudley Moore and toured extensively throughout Europe. Later in life, she continued performing until shortly before her death, maintaining a dedicated following who appreciated her refined artistry and enduring vocal quality. Her influence is noted amongst performers prioritizing lyrical interpretation over vocal pyrotechnics.
